A US soldier has been charged with assault after allegedly waterboarding his four-year-old daughter, police in the state of Washington have said.
Sgt Joshua Tabor dunked the girl's head in a sink full of water for not reciting the alphabet, police in the town of Yelm said.
Waterboarding is an interrogation technique that simulates drowning and has been banned as torture by the US.
Sgt Tabor is a helicopter repairer who served in Iraq from 2007-08.
Yelm police chief Todd Stancil said Sgt Tabor was arrested on 31 January.
Officers were called after Sgt Tabor was seen walking around his neighborhood holding a Kevlar helmet and threatening to break windows, the police chief added.
The girl was then found hiding in a locked bathroom in the soldier's home, Mr Stancil said on Monday.
Sgt Tabor posted bail of $10,000 (£6,400) on Monday and has been confined to barracks at his base in Washington state.
This is not nice at all... in fact it's horrible, but BBC might be streching just a tad with the inference that this story of abuse can be compared to the military's use of waterboarding to interrogate "terrorists" and other "opponents." On a different note, BBC also ran a story today that gambling can be linked to brain damage. Hmmm...

Haiti man 'survives 28 days under quake rubble'
The family of a Haitian man says he has survived four weeks under rubble since the devastating earthquake that struck on 12 January.
Doctors said the 28-year-old man was dehydrated and wasted. His brother told the BBC someone had given him water during his 27-day ordeal.
The BBC's Matthew Price spoke to the man's mother in the capital Port-au-Prince and said she was very emotional.
The man is being treated at a field hospital at the airport.
More than 150,000 people were killed in the earthquake, with 1.5 million left homeless, but it is estimated less than 140 people were pulled alive from the rubble in Haiti's capital.
Our correspondent says the man's mother broke down while discussing her son's apparent rescue and said she had not seen him since the quake.
The man is thought to have been pulled out from under the rubble of a building in Port-au-Prince on Monday.
Doctors said he was dehydrated and malnourished, and that his condition suggested he had been trapped for a long time.
Dr Dushyantha Jayaweera, of the University of Miami field hospital, told Reuters TV: "It is unusual but not impossible.
"He was quite dehydrated and he was wasted, so there are certain things that suggest that it's true."
Dr Jayaweera described the man's condition as "reasonable".
"He's still sick, he cannot talk to anybody, but we are very optimistic with the condition of the patient."

US missionaries in Haiti charged with child abduction
Haiti has charged 10 US missionaries with child abduction and criminal conspiracy for allegedly trying to smuggle 33 children out of the country.
Haitian officials said their cases would now be sent to an investigating judge who would decide how to proceed.
If convicted they face lengthy jail terms, says the BBC's Paul Adams, in Haiti's quake-hit capital city.
When stopped on the border last Friday, they said they were taking the children to a Dominican Republic orphanage.
But it has emerged some of the youngsters had parents who were alive.
After the hearing the 10 missionaries were taken back to the jail where they have been kept since Friday.
What the heck where these people thinking? Even if I give them the benefit of the doubt that they were thinking in the best interest of the children, kidnapping is kidnapping. Read the rest of the BBC News article here

This is so sad...

I've been following this story since Morgan Harrington went missing in October of 2009 outside of a Metallica concert. It really struck me when I heard about it for some reason. Today I went to her parents' website, findmorgan.com, to see if any new information had been posted, and found that last week police identified her body close to where she was last seen. How tragic. I'm not sure why I have been following this story in particular, as people unfortunately go missing all of the time, but I was really hoping for a happy ending to Morgan's disappearance. I guess the one good thing is her parents, family, and friends now have some peace of mind.

Never thought Urban Dictionary would be so nice to me...
So I looked my name up on urbandictionary.com and this is what came up:
Bridget=
An amazingly happy, yet clumsy person, who is so nice and is always helpful to cheer up everyone else.
I need a Bridget. (in example of needing the happiness)
You pulled a Bridget. (in example of the clumsiness)
A woman more entrancing than the greatest laser show at a European Night Club and a woman who could make the darkest day brighter than the sun. Women who try to imitate this woman pitifully fail - mostly because its like trying to imitate the most beautiful celestial body in the universe with the personality of Princess Charming.
Man, I tried to imitate Bridget today and I couldn't...
hottest girl alive. guys, you know you want her. the most beautiful, and a lovely dancer. she can act, she can sing, she is perfect all around, inside and out, but she is very down to earth and can brighten up anyones day. she is also, quite a prankster and can do many bad things without getting caught. she is amazing. bridget is very charming and can get you do do what ever she wants through her charm
has fairy-like qualities and is really good with animals. one of a kind.
Wow, I cant stand it. I wish bridget liked me.
but isnt she your best friend? i mean goh your so lucky!
yeah but im in love with her.
One of the nicest people you will ever meet! Loved by all, unless envied because of their perfection. A Bridget is overwhelmed by friends, for they are too cool. But usually a Bridget's best friend is a Nicole, becuase of obvious reasons. A Bridget is fun, crazy, smart, pretty, and loves animals! A Bridget is the the ultimate cool!
That girl just helped an old lady, what a Bridget!
Damn, look at that grade, you're so a Bridget!
I wish I could be cool like a Bridget!
A bitch, but a loveable and funny one. She can always brighten up your day with those funny remarks and insults.
So true, so true. Haha...
